ARC Review: Kiwi and the Serpent of the Isle (Kiwi Series) by Vickie Johnstone

Hi everyone, as promised, I am going to be posting my reviews here on this blog. So, here is my first review after the move! I know it has been a really long time, but I am back to reviewing books now.

Kiwi and the Serpent of the Isle (Kiwi Series, 4)Kiwi and the Serpent of the Isle by Vickie Johnstone

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Please read this first: The story of this book draws a lot from the stories of the first three books. So, it is possible that spoilers will creep into my review. If you haven’t read the first three books, please don’t read any further.

I have to start by saying that I have loved each of Kiwi’s previous adventures, and this one is no different. Vickie’s books have grown in scope and complexity, which is something I really like. The kids, at whom this series is aimed, can now grow along with the books.

The latest instalment of the Kiwi series is slightly different. For one, this is definitely not a stand-alone book, or something which can be read out of turn. The story in this book draws on plotlines from previous books, and a number of minor characters from previous books return now. Secondly, this book can clearly be divided into two distinct parts. Although, these parts are intricately linked, with one progressing effortlessly from the other, you can clearly see where one part ends and a new one begins.

Interview with the author of the ‘Kiwi Series’, Vickie Johnstone

A very warm welcome to Vickie Johnstone, author of the amazing ‘Kiwi Series’ books for children. She is here today, talking frankly about her books and her journey to become a published author.

About Vickie Johnstone:

Vickie lives in London and has a thing about fluffy cats. She works as a senior sub-editor on business mags and enjoys the delights of such things as mining, geodrilling and the environment.

She loves reading, writing, films, the sea, art, animals, nature and travelling.

She recently published her first book, called Kaleidoscope. It is a gathering of 119 poems she has written over the years since a very long time ago in a galaxy far far away. They are on a variety of themes and in different styles.

She is currently writing a series for children called Kiwi. The star is a little black cat, called Kiwi, who takes her two young owners to her other home – the blue-lit Cat City, where they meet such characters as Inspector Furrball, Paws, Madame Purrfect and Moggie. Nothing will quite seem the same again to the two children.

Book 1 is Kiwi in Cat City
Book 2 is Kiwi and the missing Magic
Book 3 is Kiwi and the Living Nightmare

The Kiwi series by author Vickie Johnstone continues as Kiwi and her friends enter another adventure. For those who are new to the series, here is a little background. Amy and James, two kids own a cat named Kiwi, who is magical, and can turn the kids into kittens and take them to Cat City. Over the last two books, they have met a number of ‘catizens’ there, who return to this story.

Kiwi and the Missing MagicKiwi and the Missing Magic by Vickie Johnstone

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kiwi’s gang is back in full force! Vickie has again created a huge fun-filled adventure for us to follow, and I loved every bit of it. All the characters of the previous story are back with a few new characters. The list of new characters includes Kiwi’s mother Moogie who seems to be quite influential in Cat City and a giant mouse named Whiskers (I run away when I see a tiny mouse, I don’t know what I’d do if I saw a giant one!).
