H is for Handy marketing tips for Authors – A Blogger’s perspective

I started blogging recently and posting my book reviews online. I have come in contact with lots of authors through a number of online websites and social networks. Through these interactions, I have seen authors trying everything they can to promote their books. While some of these things have appealed to me as a blogger as well as a reader, others have fallen short of really grabbing my attention, and there are still others which have left me seething in anger. This is a list of things that work for ME.

I’m not saying you should do any of these things as I am but one person with whom you’ll be interacting online. I also don’t profess to know what I am talking about, so continue at your own risk!

Blog tours:

Blog tours – They’re perfect

They are a great way to get a concentrated marketing boost as all the bloggers in the tour spread the word about the book and help authors reach their readers. Tours can be arranged personally by the author or be outsourced. Each has its benefits and drawbacks. By personally arranging it, authors get to interact and build relations with bloggers and it does not cost anything. By doing it professionally, authors save time and effort, but end up paying for it and lose the chance to interact with the blogger community.
Personally, I prefer to get to know the author, and be able to talk to them regularly. I have five blog tours scheduled over the next two months and would work harder on those where I ‘know’ the author.

G is for Felicia Day … err … I mean, The Guild

I am going to confess, I am in love with Felicia Day, as, I am sure a lot of my fellow geeks would say too. I came across Felicia in one of my favorite TV shows, Eureka, where she plays Dr. Holly Marten, who is sent by a senator to evaluate the team in Eureka. She has appeared in a total of 8 episodes as of now, and this is where my love affair with her begins.

When I found her on Goodreads.com and I saw her book shelves, my love for her only deepened. I am truly amazed that she can actually find the time to read this much! And, she likes fantasy. Well, what else can I ask for in the girl of my dreams? I am amazed she finds time to do so many things. Consider all that she is doing right now. She can find time to read, play video games, act on TV, create, write and produce and act in web series and write and create a series of graphic novels. I am simply left gawking at her talent, energy and above all time management.

Here’s a list of her current projects:

The Guild Dragon Age
Eureka Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
The Legend of Neil Red

About RETRIBUTION BY KELSEY MILLER

More cunning and intuitive than the other wolves in his Family, Faolan has never had a problem killing their Vampire enemies. Yet even he is unprepared for the two Changelings–newly turned Vampires–who attack him one day during his patrol. The Changelings make no move to kill Faolan, and puzzled by their strange behavior, he flees. Before the wolves can determine the cause, Faolan is attacked again.

Faolan barely has time to parry the Vampire’s blows before he is ripped from his wolf form. Cowering as a human, Faolan waits for death, yet the Vampire inexplicably spares his life–but her action comes with a price.

The Vampire claims she does not drink blood. Instead, she has vowed to kill her nemesis, Hunter, an elusive vampyre with special abilities responsible for a tragedy the Vampire refuses to disclose. She compels Faolan into joining her on a week-long journey to acquire information from Hunter’s retired executioner. Faolan’s father forces him into going, and after the Vampire saves his life, Faolan realizes that the two of them will be partners for much longer than seven days.

Faolan and the Vampire are bound together by a force older than any of them can imagine, and only they can hope to defeat Hunter. However, the Vampire has not been entirely truthful. What is she keeping from Faolan? And will he be able to learn her secret before both of them are killed?

A HUGE shoutout to my wonderful supporters!

Four months ago, to the date, I started this blog with no idea of what I was trying to achieve. I just wanted a place to write about the books I had read. I had just started reading again consistently after almost 10 years, and wanted to pen down my thoughts. Then I joined Goodreads and it opened something up, which I never knew existed. I could interact with authors and talk to them about their books! One thing led to another and I got a few books from authors to read and review. From that small beginning my blog has come a long way.

I crossed 10,000 hits !!!

I’ve reached a huge milestone and crossed 10,000 hits a couple days back. I also crossed 100 email followers! This is freakin’ huge for me! I wanted to take the time and give a HUGE shoutout to all the lovely people who have supported and followed my progress. Thank you so much for coming back time and again, for commenting on all my posts and entering the giveaways I host. You are the ones who have kept me going!

Where do my supporters come from?

I was also surprised to see some of the countries I have gotten visitors from. Azerbaijan, Malta, Guyana, Panama! I was also surprised to see Republic of Korea in the top 10. So, if someone from there is seeing this, please leave a comment and introduce your self!

Here’s the thing. I want to get to know each one of you better. So, please leave me a comment and tell me a bit about yourself.

  • Who are you, what do you do … anything!
  • Where do you come from?
  • What books do you like?
  • How did you find my blog?
  • And most importantly, what do you like best on the blog?

I’ll start! My name is Ritesh Kala and I am from Mumbai, India. I run this blog in the free time I get away from my work as an investment banking analyst. My favorite book is the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I like books in genres such as fantasy (any and all), science fiction, mystery/thriller, comedy and many more.

See, that was not hard at all. Now … you go!
