Blog Update and a new Home! Also, a BIG giveaway!

As many of you know, I have kind of shut down the blog due to personal commitments as well as a new job. The main reason for this was that I believed that I could not really find the time to keep up the blog.

While speaking with Alexia, a very dear friend, we game up with an ingenious and perfect plan to relieve some of the pressure of blogging and also allow me to continue doing what I love. So, without beating around the bush, here is the announcement!

I will be joining Alexia’s blog, ‘Alexia’s Chronicles‘ as an associate blogger. I will continue to do everything I did here, but will be relieved from micro-managing a blog. Also, Alexia’s Chronicles has just received a major makeover. To celebrate both these big events, I am sponsoring a huge giveaway there.

So, come one over, say hi to me there, and take part in the giveaway. I know all of you used to love my giveaways, and this one is the best one I’ve had, ever! 2 winners will get an ebook of their choice up to a value of $6.99!

Come see my new home, and enter the awesome Giveaway!

Please come on ever and support me in this new endeavor. And, remember to follow me there by email, to receive updates of all my posts. Oh, do leave a comment telling me you’ve come over from “Ritesh Kala’s Book Reviews”. I’ve gotten to know a many of you, but there are still a few of you I don’t know too well, and I intend to change that!

As I said before, all my reviews will be posted here as well, so this blog is definitely not shutting down.

This blog is now CLOSED!

Well, kind of.

This has been an amazing 6 months. I started the blog on 20th November, 2011, which coincidentally is also my birthday. I had no idea what I was getting into, or what I wanted to do with it. I was just thinking of writing down my thoughts about the books I was reading.

But, the community of bloggers, authors and readers I found, and who found me was simply amazing. I want to thank each one of you, for your support and love. You’re the reason, why I was able to keep up with this (besides the fact that I also had the time to do it).

But now, I have a new job which is taking increasing amounts of my time, and not leaving me with enough energy or enthusiasm to continue with this. And, I surely don’t want to be doing this half-heartedly. So, I am going to stop taking any and all review requests, and will have to stop (grudgingly) all other posts related to author promotions, interviews, guest posts and blog tours.

I will continue to read books of course, I can’t stop now that I have been bitten by the bug. I will also try and write reviews for the books I read, but again, these posts are going to now become erratic. I might be able to put up 2 or 3 reviews a week or may not put up any for a couple weeks. BUT, this may not be the end of the blog. If I feel that I am getting enough time to start work on the blog again, I will do so.

Finally, I just want to say THANK YOU, for taking this wonderful journey with me!

A HUGE shoutout to my wonderful supporters!

Four months ago, to the date, I started this blog with no idea of what I was trying to achieve. I just wanted a place to write about the books I had read. I had just started reading again consistently after almost 10 years, and wanted to pen down my thoughts. Then I joined Goodreads and it opened something up, which I never knew existed. I could interact with authors and talk to them about their books! One thing led to another and I got a few books from authors to read and review. From that small beginning my blog has come a long way.

I crossed 10,000 hits !!!

I’ve reached a huge milestone and crossed 10,000 hits a couple days back. I also crossed 100 email followers! This is freakin’ huge for me! I wanted to take the time and give a HUGE shoutout to all the lovely people who have supported and followed my progress. Thank you so much for coming back time and again, for commenting on all my posts and entering the giveaways I host. You are the ones who have kept me going!

Where do my supporters come from?

I was also surprised to see some of the countries I have gotten visitors from. Azerbaijan, Malta, Guyana, Panama! I was also surprised to see Republic of Korea in the top 10. So, if someone from there is seeing this, please leave a comment and introduce your self!

Here’s the thing. I want to get to know each one of you better. So, please leave me a comment and tell me a bit about yourself.

  • Who are you, what do you do … anything!
  • Where do you come from?
  • What books do you like?
  • How did you find my blog?
  • And most importantly, what do you like best on the blog?

I’ll start! My name is Ritesh Kala and I am from Mumbai, India. I run this blog in the free time I get away from my work as an investment banking analyst. My favorite book is the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I like books in genres such as fantasy (any and all), science fiction, mystery/thriller, comedy and many more.

See, that was not hard at all. Now … you go!

Michael J. Sullivan as featured author for an entire week!

This is a first for the blog. I will be featuring Michael J. Sullivan as a ‘featured author’ for an entire week where you, dear reader will get to know more about him and his books. We will also be hosting a giveaway for his first book of the ‘Riyria Revelations’ series, Theft of Swords (either ebook or paperback as per the winner’s preference).

Here is the schedule for the entire week:

  1. Go to the giveaway page here and follow the instructions
  2. Comment on the posts in the week. Each post on which you comment will get you an extra entry into the giveaway.

So come and enjoy the week and you could WIN a copy of ‘Theft of Swords’. Readers from the USA have a big bonus! If the winner of the giveaway is from the USA, they can receive a copy signed by the author!

So, see you here everyday for the next week.

I won the Versatile Blogger Award!

Nickie Storey-Bailey, my friend over at the ‘Book Junkies’ group on Facebook gave me the most amazing news a couple of days back. She had chosen me as one of the recipients of the coveted “The Versatile Blogger” award.  I am simply ecstatic!

Firstly, I would like to really thank Nickie for thinking about me for this award. Her excellent blog, where she discusses the ups and downs of a wanna-be writer can be found here: http://nicolestorey.wordpress.com

According to the rules, for me to accept this award, I must:

1. Thank the person who gave it to me and link them back to my blog.
2.  Share seven things about myself.
3.  Pass this award on to 5 other recently discovered blogs and inform them of the honor.

Seven things about me only my closest friends and family would know are:

1. I am a huge computer nerd. I have always been the default go-to guy in all things related to computers for as long as I can remember.
2.  I just love chocolate. I’ll do anything for a friend who has a big chocolate bar in his hands.
3.  Although I work in investment banking, I’d rather be working in a start-up internet company.
4.  I might have a lot of friends and love to be around people, but I am just as comfortable being left alone for long durations.
5.  I love Mexican and Italian food but I never eat it often enough.
6.  I love playing computer games. I get so engrossed in them, that I lose track of time. So, I had to remove all of them from my computer. However, I still have those binges every once in a while.
7.  I like English movies and TV series much more than the local Hindi stuff. This means, I generally end up watching them alone.

The five people I would like to confer this award on are:

1. Vidya Ravi: http://vidya-booksaremagic.blogspot.com
2.  Meera Srikant: http://www.meera-lastingimpressions.blogspot.com
3.  Freelancer: http://www.alotofpages.com
4.  Sheetal: http://thoughtsunrestricted.wordpress.com
5.  Natasha McNeely: http://natashamcneely.wordpress.com

And finally, I’m adding one more name to the award I am passing on. I know the deal says five, but I just cannot resist!

6. Manasi Vaidya: http://www.mansee-pov.blogspot.com/

Thank you once again, Nickie!
