ABOUT CHARLOTTE’S BOOKS

Draykon (Draykon #1)

My review of Draykon

When shy and retiring Llandry Sanfaer discovers a mesmerizing new gemstone, she suddenly becomes the most famous jeweller across the Seven Realms. Demand for the coveted stone escalates fast; when people begin dying for it, Llandry finds that she herself has become a target.

Lady Evastany Glostrum has her life in pristine order. Prestigious, powerful and wealthy, she is on the verge of crowning her successes with the perfect marriage. But when her closest friend is murdered for the jewellery she wears, Eva is drawn into the mystery surrounding the curious “istore” gem.

The emergence of the stone is causing chaos across the Seven. Gates between the worlds are opening at will, pulling hordes of creatures through from the shadowy Lower Realm and the glittering Uppers. As Eva works to discover the culprit behind the spreading disorder, Llandry must learn the truth about her precious istore stone — before she herself becomes a victim.

Lokant (Draykon #2)

My review of Lokant

The long-vanished draykon race has been restored to the Seven Realms, and the mystery of the istore stone is resolved. But Lady Eva Glostrum returns to Glour City with many questions unanswered. Who are the enigmatic sorcerers who woke the draykon? Their powers are beyond anything she has ever known. With one dead and one vanished — literally — Eva has little to go on save a book taken from a mysterious tower in the Lowers, its cover marked with the strange word “Lokant.”

Llandry Sanfaer is anxious to learn more about the glorious draykoni, whose story is so inexplicably bound up with her own. But when she brings another draykon back from the Long Sleep, she finds she has made a grave mistake. Worse, a white-haired sorcerer with a talent for mind control is stalking her across the Worlds…

As war builds between humankind and draykoni, Eva must uncover the identities of the sinister white-haired practitioners — and come to terms with the truth of her own heritage. And Llandry must learn why she appears to be their primary target …

Orlind (Draykon #3):

War has broken out between the humans of the Seven Realms and the long-lost draykoni race. Llandry’s home city is under attack, its defenders scrambling to find a way to fight the draykon enemy. The outcome of the conflict seems certain – until the draykoni vanish. Where could they have gone, and why?

Lady Eva Glostrum is convinced that this means bad news. The Lokant sorcerer Krays is still at large, and his mysterious projects centre on her world – and the draykoni. Could he have something to do with their disappearance? If so, why? And what will it mean for the Seven Realms when the draykoni come back?

As Llandry fights to defend her home, Eva sets out in pursuit of Krays. Determined to learn the truth, she’ll go to any lengths to prevent him from damaging the Seven. Her quest will take her right into the heart of Krays’s Library – and there she will uncover another long-kept secret

AUTHOR CHARLOTTE E. ENGLISH, IN HER OWN WORDS

I’m an independent fantasy author, born in England but now resident in the Netherlands. I live out here with my partner and two cats (every author has at least one cat, right? It’s nice to fit in). I’ve loved reading since I was a young child. In fact, it’s fair to say that I spent most of my teenage years living in books. When a person spends that much time dreaming in text, taking up writing is the only logical onward step. I like to write fantasy fiction because it gives me all the scope I could want to exercise my powerful (and overindulged) imagination. I have plans to write some historical fiction someday, but for now that can wait.

The Draykon books are my first fantasy series. The third book is coming out soon, which means I’m a bundle of mingled excitement and nerves right now (not that unusual). My next project is a steampunk adventure with a bit of intrigue and at least a little bit of romance.

Interview with Katheryn Lane, author of Her Latin Lover and The Royal Sheikh

Hi everyone! Today, I have with me author Katheryn Lane, who writes contemporary romance novels. This is Katheryn’s second visit to the blog, as she also participated in my huge Valentines Day Giveaway. This is quite different for me as I have not interviewed romance authors before, so it got very interesting! Lets get to the interview and get to know more about Katheryn and her books.

I also have a giveaway running right now where two lucky winners will receive a set of both her books. So, go on and enter the giveaway here!

Interview with Katheryn Lane, author of Her Latin Lover and The Royal Sheikh

Describe your books? What genre would you classify it into?

I currently have two published novels, The Royal Sheikh and Her Latin Lover, which are both contemporary romances set in fictional places.  The Royal Sheikh is set in an imaginary country in the Arabian Peninsula and Her Latin Lover is based in a fictitious place in South America, so they have a certain element of fantasy about them which I hope provides readers with some great romantic escapism. Both books are face-paced, with a lot of action and conflict, but I don’t think I’d be giving too much away if I said that, like most great romances, they have a satisfying happily-ever-after ending. Reviewers have described my books as being ‘a romantic roller coaster’, having ‘lots of flat-out chemistry’, ‘sweet, heart-warming, yet sexy’, which is fantastic, as this is exactly what I hoped to achieve when I started writing each novel.

How do you come up with the idea for the books?

My first romance, The Royal Sheikh, was inspired by my life in the Middle East. I moved here several years ago with my family and when I first arrived I went out to explore some of the country. While I was out, I came across a deserted beach on the Arabian Gulf. I must admit I wasn’t swept off my feet by a royal Sheikh, but I did see a Bedouin tent and some camels out in the distance, which set me thinking about who might live there and what they might be like. The rest of the story developed from there.

My second romance, Her Latin Lover, was inspired by my love of travel.  Luckily, I have never woken up anywhere and found myself completely alone with no money, but it does happen to people and I started wondering how such a thing could occur and what the person would do next. Much of the local details were provided by a close friend who spent a long time working in South America. However, unlike the heroine in Her Latin Lover, Mary, my friend never found herself caught up with the local mafia, at least not that I know of!

About author Katheryn Lane

Katheryn Lane works full-time as a teacher, mother and wife, but somehow also finds time to be a part-time writer as well! She loves to write contemporary romances set in exotic locations. Her acclaimed first romance, THE ROYAL SHEIKH, was inspired by her experience of living in the Middle East and her second novel, HER LATIN LOVER, takes readers to the treacherous towns and countryside of South America. In her free time (on the rare occasion that she has any!) she likes to lose herself in a good book.

Why do I write? by Carlyle Labuschagne

I write because I want to understand others as well as myself. I first started expressing myself at a very young age though poems, song writing. But finally found my true passion. Novel writing. My first novel The Broken Destiny is as I am sure many authors can relate to, is a combination of my experiences my world and the world inside my head, understanding myself as well as others , and feeding the passion. An almost craving for the feeling that writing has brought me. I have overcome the biggest obstacle of my life – to believe in myself , to prove myself to no one but myself of what I am capable of. To be a hard worker and enjoy it. To see things through.

Through writing I have learnt a lot about myself. Finally being able to move on from my mistakes. The Broken Destiny is about a girl who has to find her true self to unleash her Destiny towards greatness. Every person has good and bad, and everything comes down to a choice, and sometimes making the wrong choice is actually the right choice at the time – To grow, to learn – To love yourself. The only person who can hurt you is you. You are your worst enemy. Don’t change who you are for the sake of satisfying others, in the end it hurts only you. Your path is one of greatness and being true to yourself is the greatest gift you can give yourself and others. But it is often only through experiencing who you are not to know who you are. To know the light you have to have experienced the dark. But always remember everything you go through, no matter how hard –  is for a reason. Writing gives me great pleasure and satisfaction. Writing heals.

My desire for everyone is to find that one thing and go for it, no matter how impossible it may seem at the time, you will never know if you don’t try, and once you have tried you will know you can never be without it. If you have a passion, you can perform deeds you never thought you were capable of.

~~~~
Don’t be crippled by fear. Let love and passion give you wings.
~~~~

Ritesh:  So, tell me, why do you write? What is it that makes you do it?

Interview with Ruth Madison, author of (W)hole

Today. I welcome to the blog, author Ruth Madison. I found her books to be really intriguing as her most of her books contain characters who have some disability, and yet try to live a normal life. I know this is something that is not commonly done, and for me, it is the first time I have come across such books, except for Emlyn Chand’s Farsighted series.

I was really interested in knowing what made her write about this subject, and I had to talk to her about it. Let’s take a look at how that went!

Interview with Ruth Madison, author of (W)hole

Describe your books? What genre would you classify it into?

I write love stories because there’s nothing more beautiful to me in life than love. I always enjoy seeing people loving and supporting one another. The twist with my romances are that the heroes in my stories are always dealing with a physical disability of some kind.

How do you come up with the idea for the books?

It depends, but usually a story is sparked by me wanting to respond to something. I might overhear someone saying that a young man who has become paralyzed will never get married and that makes me want to write a book showing that a paralyzed young man can indeed get married and have the family life that he wanted.
